Internet of Things (IoT) Engineer

The Mayor's Office of the CTO is dedicated to pushing government technology forward to ensure that our systems can scale to future needs and deliver on the promise of Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, and other emerging technology.

The Internet of Things (IoT) Engineer will play a lead role in all things IoT, ranging from design and requirements analysis to investigation of new technologies and software development. You'll engage regularly with senior managers, technologists, and the City’s customers to understand needs and vision and then translate this into an executable plan and roadmap for IoT.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership for the development and integration of new IoT technologies and systems

Partner with stakeholders to develop overall strategy, policy, and roadmaps for IoT in alignment with the NYC CTO's mission

Evaluate and prototype innovative technologies and concepts with IoT and related technologies

Help lead comprehensive technical studies, trials, and evaluations of new IoT-related infrastructure, and performance monitoring tools

Create policy and strategy for continuous modernization of IoT technology to meet the public’s evolving needs

Work with Citywide IT Security team to ensure that IoT technologies meet Citywide security standards and best practices

Handle special projects and initiatives as assigned

Skills We're Seeking

Experience with IoT technologies and systems

Experience advising vendors and staff engineers in prototyping

Knowledge of security frameworks and enterprise architecture for IoT

Well rounded, broad background in web, mobile, and internet technologies

Experience with agile development

Experience with open source code development and APIs
